For over a year Google AdWords advertisers have suffered because Google have been showing their ads on keywords they did not target. At the same time, Google search users have suffered because AdWords has been delivering irrelevant ads.
Over this same time period, Google have implemented numerous improvements to AdWords, such as ad scheduling, content bids, and position preference. But the problem of expanded broad match remains. Why? Arguably, it is because expanded broad match allows Google to extract more money from advertisers. Making advertisers pay for advertising they did not request is unfair. Regardless of whether this is why Google persists in inflicting expanded broad match onto advertisers or whether it is some benign reason, we the undersigned petition Google to end expanded broad match.
